Abstract
Human biotechnology (techno-genetics) has become the great hope for improved health and an increased life span for human beings. It has started a biomedical revolution with foreseable repercussions for huma society. It is a revolution of similar or even greater importance than the industrial revolution. The biotechnology/health binomial can be seen from three perspectives. The main axes are related to the nature of the research that is given priority (proteomics, genomics, bio-pharmaceuticals and stem cells); a preventive and predictive model of medicine that is acquiring increasing validity (genetic diagnoses and gen therapy) and finally, the development of reproductive medicine (techniques of assited human reproduction and derivations).
