Ciencia y valores. Sobre el imperativo weberiano de la “desvinculación valorativa de la ciencia”

Resumen: Este artículo trata de mostrar que la tesis weberiana de la “desvinculación valorativa de la ciencia” (Wertfreiheit) es un imperativo ético dirigido a preservar la tarea de Ilustración. Dicha norma de acción pretende evitar la conversión de la racionalidad científica en una visión del mundo y mantener la autonomía de la ética; pero junto a ella, la freiheit asume no sólo la separación de facticidad y validez, sino la variedad de leyes que gobiernan el ámbito del “deber hacer”. Esta doble asunción permite distanciar a Weber tanto de la naturalización como de la historización de los valores.

Abstract: This article intends to show that the Weberian thesis of the axiological neutrality of science (Wertfreiheit) is an ethical imperative to preserve the task of Enlightenment in a Kantian sense. Such a norm of action attempts to prevent scientific rationality from becoming a world view and to maintain the autonomy of ethics. The same will apply to other spheres of action such as politics, religion or aesthetics. The Wertfreiheit assumes not only the differentiation between facticity and validity, but the variety of laws ruling what we “must do”. This dual assumption permits Weber to distance himself from the naturalization and the historization of values.
