Resumen: Este artículo responde a la cuestión acerca de cuáles son los valores más comunes para el servicio público. Para ello se realiza un estudio comparativo entre los Códigos de Gobierno de diferentes países: Estados Unidos, Reino Unido, España y México. Los resultados del estudio señalan, por un lado, aquellos valores éticos comunes a los gobiernos y administraciones públicas y, por otro, la necesidad de incorporar instrumentos que fortalezcan dichos valores, dada la existencia de servidores públicos cuya conducta se halla muy lejos de una verdadera ética de servicio

Abstract: This essay answers the question about the most common values within the public service. Therefore, a comparative study between different countries Codes of Ethics: United States, United Kingdom, Spain and Mexico, will be made. On the one hand, the results show common values for the public governments and administrations. On the other hand, the necessity to introduce tools which would strengthen those values, due to the action of civil servants whose attitude would be so far away from a real service ethic.
