ABSTRAC: These reflections began during a collaboration at the institutional project INREDIS (from its name in Spanish, whose English translation stands a “Interfaces linking settings to handicapped people”). The main potential driver focuses on health biotechnology and on the technologies developed since the second half of the past century up to now (corresponding to the so called modern and contemporary biotechnologies). Those advances offer opportunities to improve handicapped people conditions both from the diagnostic point of view with the “omics” application and the therapeutic domain thanks to the progress in bioengineering and regenerative medicine. The underlying high complexity of these topics leads to the use of the case by case analysis taking also into account the ethical and social dimensions involved in each case.
KEY WORDS: Health biotechnology, diagnosis, the “omics”, bioengineering, regenerative medicine.
