EL CONTROL DE LOS OMGs EN LA COMISIÓN NACIONAL DE BIOSEGURIDAD

Resumen
La Comisión Nacional de Bioseguridad (CNB) se encarga en España de informar a las Autoridades Competentes sobre la seguridad para la salud y el medio ambiente de las acciones de utilización confinada, liberación voluntaria y comercialización de Organismos Modificados Genéticamente (OMGs).
La CNB ha informado favorablemente en cada una de las tres acciones los siguientes eventos: en situación de confinamiento, 73 instalaciones (112 operaciones), 9 para trabajar con OMG de riesgo moderado; por otro lado, 256 liberaciones voluntarias, con un valor máximo (53) en el año 1998, y de las que 237 son plantas, siendo el maíz la más estudiada, seguida por remolacha, arroz y algodón. Las modificaciones han estado dirigidas principalmente a la tolerancia a herbicidas y resistencia a insectos. Ha estudiado además 10 acciones de comercialización, presentadas en España, cuatro de ellas retiradas y el resto pendiente, aunque existen dos declaraciones favorables.

Abstract
The National Commission on Biosafety (CNB) is in charge of informing to the competent authorities in Spain, on the safety for the human health and the environment, of the actions of confined use (containment), deliberate release, and commercialisation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
The CNB has favourably informed in each of the three actions: under containment, 73 installations (112 operations), 9 of them to use GMOs with moderate risk; on the other hand, 256 liberations, a maximum value (53) was reached on 1998. 237 notifications were of plants, being maize the most frequent followed by beet, rice and cotton. The most frequent genetic modifications were aimed to introduce herbicide tolerance, and resistance to insects. It has also studied 10 commercialisation events notified in Spain (four withdrawn by the firms) and the remaining still pending, but two positive declarations already decided.
