Resumen: ¿Seremos como ciudadanos capaces de poner juntos al día nuestra dramática memoria histórica al servicio de una religión civil española indispensable para nuestro progreso en la Historia? Primero de todo, hemos de asumir la existencia de diversas interpretaciones de la República. En segundo lugar, deberemos actuar de modo que la memoria colectiva sirva a la liberación y no a la servidumbre de los hombres: en nuestro caso ello comporta no utilizar el pasado como arma arrojadiza, en términos de horrores, agravios y de la separación entre vencedores y vencidos de la guerra civil. La memoria de la República, de la guerra y de la dictadura ni es instrumentalizable en el debate político, legítimamente, por unos u otros antagonistas ni está a disposición de parte. La respuesta a las preguntas que las jóvenes generaciones nos hacen sobre nuestra cruenta biografía no debe ser otra que convertir en historia nuestro pasado: asimilar la guerra civil como hecho histórico vivo y de perspectiva integral.

Abstract: Will we be as citizens together capable of putting up to date our dramatic historical memory to the service of a civil religion indispensable for our progress in History? To begin with, we have to assume the existence of diverse interpretations of the Republic. Secondly, we will have to act so that the collective memory serves to the liberation and not to the servitude of men: in our case it means not to use the past as a weapon, in terms of horrors, damages and of the separation between winners and loosers of the civil war. The memory of the Republic, of the war and of the dictatorship neither is instrumentalizable in the political debate, legitimately, for some or other antagonists nor is at the disposal of any parcial interest. The response to the questions that the young generations raise about our bloody biography cannot be different as to turn into history our past: that means to assimilate the civil war as a historical fact and in integral perspective.
