Democratic memory policies in the Governments of Pedro Sánchez

Resumen

En el presente artículo se realiza un análisis de las políticas memorialistas en España durante su actual etapa democrática, desde la muerte del dictador hasta nuestros días, en tres planos. En primer lugar, nos referimos a un balance sintético de las políticas de memoria partiendo de la ya bien nutrida historiografía disponible (1975-2018). En segundo lugar, se presenta un primer balance de las políticas simbólicas, administrativas y legislativas del gobierno de Pedro Sánchez en materia de memoria, situándolas en el proceso histórico presente (2018-2025). Por último, se ofrecen unas conclusiones globales sobre el alcance y el significado histórico de las políticas de memoria histórica y democrática.

Abstract

This article employs an analytical approach to examine memorial policies in Spain during its current democratic phase, from the death of the dictator to the present day. The analysis is conducted on three levels. Firstly, a summary assessment of memory policies is provided, drawing upon the extensive existing historiography (1975-2018). Secondly, an initial assessment of the symbolic, administrative and legislative policies of Pedro Sánchez’s government in the field of memory is presented, situating them in the present historical process (2018-2025). Finally, the article offers some global conclusions on the scope and historical significance of historical and democratic memory policies.
