Resumen: En este artículo se analiza el planteamiento que, en materia de desarrollo rural y lucha contra el hambre, realiza el Plan Director de la Cooperación Española 2009-2012. Los dos pilares de este planteamiento son la soberanía alimentaria y el desarrollo rural territorial. Ambos pilares contribuyen a orientar a la cooperación española en direcciones interesantes; sin embargo, aquí se argumenta que la cooperación española no debería vincularse tan explícitamente al problemático concepto de soberanía alimentaria y que, en su lugar, debería promocionar de manera más intensa el desarrollo rural territorial.

Abstract: This article analyzes the way in which the Spanish General Plan of Co-operation 2009-2012 approaches rural development and hunger relief. The two pillars of the approach are food sovereignty and territorial rural development. Both pillars contribute to orienting Spanish co-operation towards interesting directions. However, the article argues that Spanish cooperation should not be so explicitly based in the problematic concept of food sovereignty. It should promote territorial rural development more intensely instead.
