Las personas que están llegando a Europa pidiendo refugio sufren las consecuencias de guerras, pobreza, hambre y desigualdades. Según Naciones Unidas hay en el mundo más de mil quinientos millones de personas que viven en países afectados por conflictos. La Unión Europea hace frente a la emergencia social que se está viviendo en sus fronteras, garantizando que los Estados miembros respeten los derechos humanos y las normativas comunitarias de asilo y refugio. Las ambivalencias y la dilación en la toma de decisiones está conduciendo a una agravación de los problemas, prolongando el sufrimiento de muchos seres humanos. Elena Valenciano, Esteban Beltrán, José Manuel Díaz Olalla y Carlos Fernández Liesa aportan sus reflexiones.
